However, we remain on hand to answer any queries and to support students via phone and email. LSDN centres will re-open in full on Monday 7th September 2020. We are busy preparing our premises to ensure a safe environment for our students, staff and members of the public visiting our centres. Our classrooms are being re-designed with safety and social distancing measures in mind and to facilitate a more flexible learning environment. We are also expanding our premises and making space for workshops to reduce the need for our students to travel to external premises for the technical and practical elements of their courses.
From September, we will offer our courses and programmes through a wider range of delivery methods, these include one-to-one coaching, online learning, classroom learning, and blended learning (mix of classroom and distance learning).
Students can enrol at LSDN immediately for courses and programmes in the following sector subject areas:
Building and construction
Health and Social Care
Childcare and Education
Leadership and Management
English and Maths
Digital Skills and Employability
If you were unable to finish your course or learning programme with LSDN either this year or last year, please contact us for information on how you can re-enrol at LSDN or return to your studies with us. We look forward to welcoming you back and will be happy to help and support you with any issues or difficulties you may be facing.
We remain on hand to support our students throughout the whole summer so please do not hesitate to contact us if you need any help or support. T: 020 3784 1294 / E: email@example.com.

From June 2020, LSDN is offering a whole suite of new courses and learning programmes. These are all available ONLINE and through DISTANCE LEARNING. Please click on the images below to see our brand new leaflets and course information.
MISINFORMATION AND FAKE NEWS ALERT – NEW SHARE CHECKLIST
Be careful what you share. Things aren’t always what they seem online.
Just because a story appears online, doesn’t mean it is true. The internet is great, but it can also be used to spread misleading news and content. Protect yourself and your friends from false information about coronavirus. Use the SHARE checklist to make sure you don’t feed the beast. You can find out more here: https://sharechecklist.gov.uk/
RACIAL EQUALITY AND SOCIAL JUSTICE
The Prime Minister has made a statement on racial equality and social justice. Education Organisations have been asked to share this message with their staff and students.
Prime Minister message on Black Lives Matter:
The death of George Floyd took place thousands of miles away – in another country, under another jurisdiction – and yet we simply cannot ignore the depth of emotion that has been triggered by that spectacle, of a black man losing his life at the hands of the police.
In this country and around the world his dying words – I can’t breathe – have awakened an anger and a widespread and incontrovertible, undeniable feeling of injustice, a feeling that people from black and minority ethnic groups do face discrimination: in education, in employment, in the application of the criminal law.
And we who lead and who govern simply can’t ignore those feelings because in too many cases, I am afraid, they will be founded on a cold reality.
Yes, I am proud to lead the most ethnically diverse government in the history of this country, with two of the four great offices of state held by a man and a woman of Indian origin; and yes, I am proud of the work I began to lead more than ten years ago to recruit and promote more young black people, in the police and other walks of life.
This country has made huge strides. I remember the 1970s, and the horror of the National Front. I truly believe that we are a much, much less racist society than we were, in many ways far happier and better.
But we must also frankly acknowledge that there is so much more to do – in eradicating prejudice, and creating opportunity, and the government I lead is committed to that effort.
And so I say yes, you are right, we are all right, to say Black Lives Matter; and to all those who have chosen to protest peacefully and who have insisted on social distancing – I say, yes of course I hear you, and I understand.
But I must also say that we are in a time of national trial, when for months this whole country has come together to fight a deadly plague.
After such sacrifice, we cannot now let it get out of control.
It is BAME communities who have been at the forefront of the struggle against coronavirus – whether in health care or transport or social care or any of the other essential services that have kept our country going.
And it is BAME communities, tragically, that have paid a disproportionate price.

COVID-19 (CORONAVIRUS) LATEST LSDN UPDATE – THURSDAY 04/06/2020 (3.30pm)
Statement from Virginie Ramond
Following on from last week’s update introducing our plans for a phased re-opening of our offices and centres, in this week’s bulletin, we provide a short update on our progress thus far and reflect on some of the wider issues affecting society at this time.
LSDN CENTRE RE-OPENING PROGRESS UPDATE
Following last week’s news that we aimed to start cautious preparations towards a phased re-opening of our centres, we have made some excellent progress this week. We have completed a full site audit to identify the changes needed to our premises in line with government guidance and we have identified the resources and equipment required to enable safe working practices. Throughout the week, we have also consulted our staff in regards to their needs, preferences and priorities related to our re-opening plans.
Our primary method of course delivery will continue to be online for some time to come, however, we do hope to start welcoming students on a 1:1 or very small group basis from around the last week in June, this will probably only be for a few hours at a time initially, rather than a full day, due to the restrictions we will face across the premises and to limit risks to all involved. Look out for further updates in our upcoming weekly bulletins.
SOCIAL JUSTICE AND THE SITUATION IN AMERICA
Those of you who have engaged with LSDN will know that as an organisation we are passionate about equality, social justice and the unequivocal respect of human rights for all. We reject all forms of discrimination, racism, injustice and abuse of power. We stand in solidarity with all those who feel marginalised, oppressed and have faced or experienced discrimination of any form.
Equality is a conscious choice, as with justice and anything else of importance, worth or value in our lives, it is something that we must all work hard to achieve and requires constant and conscious investment to maintain. We all have a choice and a role to play in advancing equality and social justice.
As an organisation that is dedicated to the principles of education and sharing knowledge, we encourage everyone to educate themselves on the subjects of racial equality, discrimination and unconscious bias. Let’s make a commitment to use this time as an opportunity for both personal and societal growth and to work together for positive lasting change. As Martin Luther King said ‘injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere‘.
Finally, for anyone who may be intending to join any of the demonstrations or group gatherings planned to take place in London or across the UK, please take care to maintain social distancing and to take appropriate steps to protect yourself. Ethnic minority communities have been shown to be at greater risk of Coronavirus and although the infection rate has lowered, it has not gone away, continued caution is essential.
If you are affected by any of the above issues or would like to talk to someone in confidence, please call our confidential safeguarding line on 07823 492658.
COVID-19 (CORONAVIRUS) LATEST LSDN UPDATE – THURSDAY 28/05/2020 (3.30pm)
We hope everyone is enjoying the glorious weather this week. Today’s bulletin is focussed on information related to the re-opening of LSDN centres.
LSDN CENTRE RE-OPENING NEWS
From next week, LSDN will start the process of getting its centres ready for re-opening. In the first instance, we will make sure suitable arrangements are put in place to enable LSDN staff to work safely and to settle back into the workplace. Following this phase, we will make arrangements to start welcoming students and members of the public back to our centres, initially, this will be on a very limited scale with strict restrictions in place regarding social distancing and a maximum number of people we can have in the centre at any time.
In all cases, we will continue to follow government and scientific advice and will prioritise the health and safety of our staff, students and members of the public at all times.
Subject to public health advice and further developments, we expect our centres to re-open before the end of June.
We will continue to post updates here. In the meantime, if you require any support or have any queries, feel free to contact us: 0203 784 1294.

COVID-19 (CORONAVIRUS) LATEST LSDN UPDATE – TUESDAY 12/05/2020 (3.30pm)
This week is the eighth week since lockdown began across the UK. On Sunday, the Prime Minister set out some initial plans for ending the current lockdown and easing some of the restrictions. Below we provide a quick summary of LSDN updates and our advice to students and their families.
Following Sunday’s broadcast, there will be no major changes to operations at LSDN, all LSDN staff are already successfully working from home and will continue to do so until we can be assured that it is safe for staff to attend work premises.
At present, our centres remain closed, but we want to assure all of our students and partners that we remain fully operational and we are here to support all of our students to successfully complete and achieve their programmes with us. Please feel free to contact us with any queries or if you require support, our usual telephone numbers and email addresses remain fully operational.
We also wish to take the opportunity to remind everyone to stay safe. Despite some small easing of lockdown restrictions, the present threat from coronavirus has not gone away and anyone with pre-existing health conditions or other vulnerable categories should take special care to avoid any risk of infection. The streets and local shops have become busier as people start to travel again for work or leisure, so please all be mindful of this.
Please also be aware of the increased risk of fraud and IT security issues during this time, as well as the high levels of ‘false’ or ‘fake’ information being circulated, especially via social media. You can see some of our previous updates (below) in regards to these issues. In the event of any concerns or queries, please feel free to contact us.
Finally, a thank you to all students who participated in our live quiz event last week. You will all be pleased to know that The Great LSDN Quiz is back tomorrow, the theme is ‘movies, movies, movies’. The winning prize is £25 M&S or Amazon shopping voucher.

COVID-19 (CORONAVIRUS) LATEST LSDN UPDATE – TUESDAY 28/04/2020 (3.30pm)
We are now entering the 6th week of lockdown, requests for support and assistance from LSDN students have continued to increase as a result of the challenges being faced by all. In response to these circumstances, we have updated our arrangements to ensure that we can offer necessary support while also maintaining the safety and wellbeing of LSDN staff and students.
Access to LSDN premises and support arrangements for LSDN students
From today, LSDN will have staff at its premises between 10am and 12pm Mondays and Wednesdays each week. Students can only attend through a prior appointment and will be given a timeslot for their appointment to ensure social distancing is maintained. The purpose of these appointments is for students to get help with any technology/equipment issues and to get support with their assignments if this is not possible over the phone. LSDN is also providing a limited foodbank service.
LSDN has limited foodbank provisions available for LSDN students and their families. We only stock dry goods such as cereal and pasta, long-life milk, and tins. We distribute provision from our foodbank every Monday and Wednesday between 10am and 12pm. Appointments must be made in advance for everyone’s safety and wellbeing. Any student requiring support should contact Ramota Sanusi: firstname.lastname@example.org/07823492658 or Jermaine Johnson: email@example.com/07885296016.
Stay safe everyone and keep on learning!
In today’s update, we want to raise awareness of the importance of e-safety, as well as the increased risk of fraud and misinformation during this time.
Information: internet safety
Let’s Talk About It, a support site, has put together a useful guide for students, parents and carers about online safety during the Covid-19 period. The guide can be found at the following link: https://www.ltai.info/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Parent-Guardian-Online-Radicalisation-Information-and-Support.pdf
Information: increased fraud risk during coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic
Periods of instability, such as during the coronavirus pandemic, bring an increased risk of fraud. Fraudsters will actively exploit these difficult times and will target vulnerable areas for financial gain.
We have been informed that some students and parents have received a letter from the Department for Education or from ESFA asking for personal student bank details in relation to the 16 to 19 Bursary Fund. The ESFA and Department for Education want all students to be aware that they will never ask for personal bank account details. This is a fraudulent letter – please do not respond.
All students should look out for any fraudulent letters, texts and emails. Avoid clicking on links from any unknown sources. If in doubt, contact us and our IT team can verify the information for you.
Information: misinformation and conspiracy theories
Periods of instability, such as during the coronavirus pandemic, bring an increased risk of misinformation and unfounded theories. Some may seem innocent or even humourous, however, some can pose serious risks to people’s health and wellbeing. To avoid falling into this trap, you can use an unbiased fact-checking website to verify the accuracy and legitimacy of information you come across, this is especially true of information circulated via social media. You can access the UK’s independent fact-checking charity service via this link: https://fullfact.org/
Wishing everyone a happy Friday and a lovely weekend!
We are now entering the fifth week of lockdown and we have all been doing our best to stay home and stay healthy while continuing to work, study and/or look after our families. For some, I am sure that the last several weeks have not been easy. Some people live alone and wish they didn’t while others live with family or friends and are wishing for a few moments of peace and quiet. Either way, these are unprecedented times we live in and that also means unprecedented challenges. But it’s not all doom and gloom, we are all adapting in the best ways we can and many people are using the time to do things that perhaps they would not normally have the opportunity to do, trying an online fitness class, writing that book we always promised ourselves we would write, learning to cook or bake, or simply catching up on quality family time.
However you are coping and whatever you may be dealing with, we want to let you know that LSDN is here to HELP. We all need to look out for each other and do our bit in these difficult times.
In the meantime, LSDN courses are still running and you can contact us Monday to Friday 9-5 to join one of our courses or for support to complete your course if you are an existing or past student. We are also supporting our students with access to technology where needed and with employment and volunteering where this is something that they are interested in. Whatever your circumstances, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will work with you to find a positive solution.
For parents whose children are entitled to free school meals, you should be receiving £15 vouchers or supermarket gift cards. The link is: https://www.gov.uk/
Stay safe, stay healthy and we hope to see you soon (even if it’s only on Zoom)!

Please see below for updates related to employment support, general support and professional development resources for our students during Covid- 19.
Some students have indicated an interest in employment opportunities during this emergency period. This is very much a personal choice and individuals should seriously consider their personal health circumstances (such as any pre-existing health conditions) and also the circumstances of their household, such as whether anyone in their household is vulnerable or at increased risk. For individuals who do wish to work, there are a number of sectors that are actively recruiting new staff and/or still working during this crisis, these present good opportunities for people who do wish to gain employment during the current period of crisis. Some of the sectors currently recruiting or still operating throughout the crisis include:
– Rail sector
– Security and Stewarding sector
– Health and social care sector
– Logistics sector (delivery drivers/couriers)
– Retail sector (mostly supermarkets)
You can find some additional information at the following link: https://metro.co.uk/2020/03/30/supermarkets-hiring-offering-temp-jobs-moment-12479475/

Any students requiring help, support or advice in relation to employment or volunteering should contact Jermaine Johnson: 07885 296016 / email@example.com

ALERT: increased fraud risk during coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic
Periods of instability, such as during the coronavirus pandemic, bring an increased risk of fraud. Fraudsters will actively exploit these difficult times and will target vulnerable communities for financial gain.
ActionFraud reported a 400% increase in reports of coronavirus related fraud in March 2020. The reported frauds are varied and include:
Online shopping fraud
Further information is available on the ActionFraud website.
Remember, fraudsters can be very convincing, they are used to exploiting people and will have prepared thoroughly.
We have been informed that some parents have received an email stating the following: ‘As schools will be closing, if you’re entitled to free school meals, please send your bank details and we’ll make sure you’re supported’.
We can confirm that this is a scam email and is not official. We urge parents that if you receive any emails like this, please do not respond, and delete it immediately.
Stay well and stay safe everyone.
